Fasting month and Food

September 10, 2009
During the fasting month, the Trade Ministry, in cooperation with businesspeople, often conducts so-called market operations, selling basic goods, including rice, sugar and cooking oil, to the country’s poor families at below market price. The ministry has yet to announce such market operations for this year.

The governor also said he expected the number of Jakarta residents traveling to their hometowns to celebrate Idul Fitri to increase by 10 percent, adding that his administration was readying four main bus stations — Kalideres in West Jakarta, Pulo Gadung and Kampung Rambutan in East Jakarta, and Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta — and 11 support bus stations to serve travelers.

Millions of Indonesians will travel home for Idul Fitri, which this year falls on Sept. 21 and 22.
